Damage suffered by USS Cassin (DD-43), 15 October 1917
This view shows the damage done to the Cassin class destroyer USS Cassin (DD-43) when she was hit by a torpedo fired by U-61 on 15 October 1917, 20 miles south of Mind Head, Ireland. The torpedo blew off her stern, but the Cassin was still able to fight off the U-boat with her guns, and was then towed to safety. This picture was taken within the ship, looking aft, and shows some of her rear frames.
