USS Manley (DD-74) as fast transport, 1939
Here we see the Caldwell class destroyer USS Manley (DD-74) on 7 May 1939, off New York, soon after she was converted into a fast troop transport. At this date she had the designation AG-28, but in August 1940 she became APD-1, the designation under which she fought in the Second World War.
