USS San Diego (CL-53) after her 1944 overhaul
Here we see the Atlanta class light cruiser USS San Diego (CL-53) at Mare Island on 9 April 1944 after undergoing an overhaul. Note the extra anti-aircraft guns in circular enclosures and the depth charges on the stern, but the main changes in this overhaul were to her radar, key to her role as an anti-aircraft cruiser.
